Fenced yard (no electric fences) and Companion Dog required

Meet Cheerio!  She is a special girl that is learning love and the luxuries of indoor living since coming into rescue over a month ago!  Cheerio is such a cutie and is eager to learn!

Cheerio is a five year old, buff and white, Cocker Spaniel.  Her life prior to rescue was that of a breeder dog.  She only knew a wire crate, limited human contact, taking care of puppies and a feed bowl. She is a smaller girl, weighing about 25 pounds.

Cheerio has some very specific requirements for her new forever family and home.   A securely fenced yard is mandatory .  Cheerio has no clue what a leash is, no clue what grass is, and is loving the free open area to sniff and explore.  She keeps a close eye on her doggy friends at her foster home and will follow their lead and routine.   Cheerio will also need a confident doggy companion in her new home to continue to model “how to be a dog”!   She is very in tune with what the other dogs are doing and tries hard to let her fear and shyness go, so she can join in the doggy life!

When Cheerio arrived in her foster home, it took her several weeks to leave her safe corner and bed that were in the bedroom.  She would retreat to this safe area when her foster mom would try to pet her or talk to her.  With a lot of patience and time, Cheerio learned that human touch is good!  It is soft and gentle and always offers treats.  Her foster mom would sit next to her and provide pets and soft talks to help ease her fear.  Cheerio has also learned that cheese is a tasty treat that is given every morning after going outside! She is not potty trained yet, but she is also making great progress now that she is no longer afraid of the sliding back door!

While Cheerio has made great strides in a matter of weeks, she still gets scared of anything new.  New people visiting, new sounds, etc need to be limited and given time and patience for Cheerio to see she is safe!  This is where a confident companion dog comes in to play!  She trusts other dogs way faster than anything else!  If her friends are doing it, it must be ok and she will follow suit!
Please be mindful of Cheerio’s needs before submitting an adoption application, as these requirements are not negotiable for her safety and her opportunity to continue to blossom!
