Name: SEREN SADIE
Breed: SHEPHERD/CHOW MIX PLEASE research the Chow breed before submitting an application
Age: 6 Years
Weight: 45 Pounds
Size: Medium
Good with Kids: Only if they are older respectful kids, who understand her boundaries
Good with Dogs: Yes, with slow introductions. Seren Sadie is very playful once she is comfortable with the other dogs.
Good with Cats: Unknown, but she does ignore the cats at the groomers
Energy Level: Medium
House-Trained: Yes
Crate-Trained: Yes. When it is time for bed, Seren Sadie will automatically go into her crate for the night.
Leash-Trained: Yes
Rides well in the car: Yes, she enjoys going for car rides
Good with Young Children: NO! Seren Sadie does not do well with young children because they do not always understand and respect her boundaries.
Good with Strangers: NO! Seren Sadie definitely has what is sometimes referred to as Stranger Danger. She is not a dog you can approach and immediately pet. Seren Sadie is a dog that requires a person/family that will give her the time, patience and space to accept you on her terms. You have to earn her trust and it is a process that cannot be rushed or forced, though Once she is comfortable with you, she is a very loving and affectionate dog. She would do best in a home without a revolving door of visitors. If you do have visitors, Please either crate her in another room, or explain to the visitors not to pet her or force her to interact with them.
Shy Or Confident: Seren Sadie is a reserved dog, who takes a while to warm up to new people. She does require another dog in the home, as she will watch and follow how the other dog responds to people.
Barks; YES! She feels the need to alert you to any and every person, noise or vehicle she sees or hears, and she does it by barking and howling very loudly.
Apartment Qualified: NO! Because of the answer above, Apartments, Townhouses, or Condos would not be a good fit for her
Needs a Fence and Required Height Of Fence: Because of Seren Sadie's fearfulness I believe a fenced yard would be in her best interest. We have a 4ft chain link fence and she does fine with it
Even with her quirks, Seren Sadie is a wonderful loving dog who wants to please her people, and smiles when she is told she is a Good Girl! She is not a big snuggler, but she does like being near you. She Loves having her ears scratched, and will put her paw on your leg when she wants attention.
Seren Sadie is crate trained, but after she is comfortable with the other dogs in the house she can be left out. She sleeps in her crate at night, but would be happy to s[eep in bed with you, if allowed
Seren Sadie enjoys being outside, but she does prefer her people to be out there with her
She does shed A Lot, but she does like to be brushed, so that is a plus! I go to the groomers every 4 weeks with my foster siblings and my wonderful groomer says I am well behaved while I am there.
Seren Sadie recently graduated from the Bonne Terre Puppies For Parole Program and she will come with her Training Handbook that shows what she was taught while there. She is treat motivated, but can be picky about what kind of treats she likes. Chicken is one of her favorite foods, but she doesn't like peanut butter.
