FENCED YARD AND COMPANION DOG REQUIRED

McKenzie is a sweet Corgi who has come a long way during her time with Needy Paws. She's 2 years old and weighs about 25lbs. Please read McKenzie's full bio (and research undersocialized dogs if you are not familiar with them) to see if she could be a good fit for you.

Prior to coming to Needy Paws, McKenzie was a breeder dog. She is timid and anxious when it comes to new people and new experiences. If she is startled, she will run away. At first, she did not come out of her kennel for over 2 weeks. Although she was very scared, she has a wonderful temperament and never growled or snapped at her foster mom.

After starting anxiety medication, McKenzie has made amazing progress. Not only does she leave her kennel, but she follows her foster mom's dog throughout the house and enjoys taking naps on the couch with her foster mom. She is also making progress with house training. She sleeps in her kennel at night. She has started to enjoy being scratched behind her ears, but she is still pretty skittish. She enjoys looking out the front window and barking at delivery people.

The ideal home for McKenzie would be a quiet household with a consistent routine. McKenzie will not wear a leash yet, so a secure fenced yard is required for her. She has learned a lot from her foster mom's dog, so she will also require another confident dog who can show her the ropes in her adopted home. Because she is so easily startled, a home without young children would be best. Older children who respect her space would be fine. She would like to have an open crate available so that she has a safe space to go when she is feeling overwhelmed.

McKenzie is an incredibly loving dog and will make a wonderful family member for the right adopters who will go at her pace to build trust. If that's you, please apply to meet her today!
