Sousaphone or Sousa is just as ridiculous as his name! He is sweet, loving, silly boy once he bonds with you.  Sousa was found as a stray in Rolla, so we are not sure what his story is. He is estimated to be about 5-6 years old, already neutered, so someone had taken care of him. He is very loving and totally attached to his foster mom but anyone else he is a bit leery of, especially if she is not around, so he will need a calm forever home without young children.

He is a herder for sure and herd the other foster dogs and cats if given a chance. If it moving fast, he is herding it! He is gentle and very loving and gets along with his foster family, including the 2 cats. He loves to give kisses and lick your arms and feet or just lay in your lap and get tummy rubs. He has learn, sit, stay and come and walks ok on a leash, just a bit scared of cars and fast moving people. He is housebroken, and sleeps in his crate at night and is gated in the kitchen during the day when his foster parents are at work with zero accidents.

He is good with other dogs, just scared of larger dogs so he will need a companion in the home that is around his size, hopefully a female, as he is a ladies man!  He is a big scardy-cat so a confident doggie companion is a must for him, we have tried him as an only child and he shuts down and won't leave his crate. He will need a patient family who will give him time, love and a bit of space at first, but after a few days he will be glued to your side, mouthing your hand and playing with toys. Fenced in yard is high prefered as well.

Sousaphone’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip.

We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter.
