Meet Smudgy! He's a 6-month-old "Peekapoo" (Pekingese/Poodle mix) and weighs about 10 lbs. Please read Smudgy's entire bio before applying.
Smudgy is incredibly sweet and snuggly and bonds quickly with his core people. We don't think he was very well-socialized in the first months of his life, so he can be timid and submissive in his initial reaction to new people, big dogs, and crowds/noise. Smudgy has some separation anxiety and does not like to be left in his crate. He does better in a puppy pen, but will cry and bark for long stretches of time, so his adopter will need to continue to work with him so that he is comfortable being left alone. He is mostly potty-trained, but he is still a puppy, so he will do best with close supervision.
Even when his initial reaction is fearful, Smudgy does warm up fairly quickly to new people. He is fine with cats and other similarly-sized dogs, but scared of large dogs. He would be okay with older kids if they are gentle with him. He is very nervous about walking on a leash outside his yard, so for now he is enjoying doing zoomies around the fenced backyard at his foster home. He also likes to be carried in a sling.
The ideal home for Smudgy would have someone home often -- he would not be a good fit for someone who is gone for most of the day. Smudgy would thrive in a calm, quiet, loving environment where he can spend most of his time with his family. Smudgy has already made great progress with his anxiety and socialization, so if his adopter continues his training, he should continue to grow. Small dogs can live well into their teens, so please keep that in mind when planning for a future with Smudgy.
