Ollie is a purebred Pomeranian who looks like a miniature, smiling lion! He's a petite 9 lbs and 11 years old, but he is as perky and alert as a dog half his age. He loves to perch on your lap and watch TV (he even follows what's happening on the screen!). Other hobbies include giving kisses, napping on the coffee table, sniffing daintily around the yard, and being pampered.
More than anything, Ollie wants to be close to "his" people. We don't know much about his life before he came to Needy Paws, but he hasn't always known what it's like to be part of a family. He is a total sweetheart. He gets along with other dogs and would probably be fine with cats. Kids are fine with Ollie as long as they're respectful of his small size. He has a moderate level of energy and enjoys car rides.
Ollie would prefer to be in a home where someone is home for the majority of the day. He tolerates his crate for shorter periods of time, but eventually he will cry for his people to come back. He would be fine in an apartment if someone is home most of the time, but he would not do well if crated for extended periods. He can handle a couple of steps, but staircases are still scary for him so he will need to be carried up and down the stairs until he learns how to use them. Ollie is working on learning that he isn't allowed to "mark" things indoors, so he wears a belly band inside (they are easy to put on and easy to clean, and he doesn't seem to mind them at all). He was recently neutered, which should help to reduce the marking behavior. He's not sure what this "leash" thing is all about, so he will need some training to get used to walking on a leash. Ollie's a happy-go-lucky fellow and should respond well to training. He will make a wonderful companion for someone who will keep him by their side!
